Some of them work at the town hall. They help you, for example, when:
- you move to Hesperange and need to register;
- you need an ID card or passport;
- you have to give a parental consent – that’s a document that parents need to provide when their children go on a trip with the school or an association;
- you want to register your dog;
- you need a building permit;
- you have questions about school, nurseries or after-school care.
Others are out and about working in the municipality all day. That’s why they’re often seen in different places. Here are a few examples:
- The gardeners ensure hedges and trees along the streets are trimmed and we have beautiful flowers everywhere.
- The Sanitation Department empties bins in playgrounds and parks and in many other places.
- The Flexibus transports residents around the municipality of Hesperange.
- The municipal enforcement officer ensures that residents follow the rules, and checks parking tickets and bicycles during the Coupe Scolaire.
There are also many residents in the municipality of Hesperange who volunteer to help other citizens.
Among those people are firefighters. They respond promptly to floods, fires or accidents and are always quickly on site. From age 8, kids can join the youth fire service. From the age of 16, they are automatically transferred to the adult fire unit.
Others get involved in a municipal advisory comittee. An advisory committee is a group of residents working on ideas in a specific area or proposing solutions to local issues.
A committee can't make decisions; it provides recommendations to the college of aldermen.
The municipality of Hesperange for example has a school committee, a sports and leisure committee, a mobility committy, a culture committee and an environment committee, among others.
