The Hesperange municipal council

Every six years, the residents of the Hesperange municipality elect a new municipal council. In total, the municipal council consists of 17 women and men. Together, they decide what is important and meaningful for Hesperange’s residents.

The mayor

One of these 17 people is the mayor. He or she takes on responsibility in the municipality and is supported by the college of aldermen and the municipal council.

But that doesn’t mean the mayor can decide everything alone.

The aldermen

There are three aldermen in Hesperange. They support the mayor and help with the work.

They regularly meet as a group of four to discuss ideas and prepare project proposals for the municipal council.

The municipal councillors

The 13 other people in the municipal council discuss the proposals with the college of aldermen. Everyone can say if they agree or not with an idea.

Each member of the municipal council can propose new ideas and put questions to the college of aldermen.

When is a project approved?

Every project is voted on by the municipal council. At least 9 of the 17 municipal council members in Hesperange must agree with it.

From that point on, a majority is reached and the project can be implemented.
